Technology of Artificial Turf Installation

Learn About the Technology Behind Artifical Turf: Durability and Testing

Artificial turf is made out of synthetic fibers that are put together to replicate real grass. Artificial turf installation is used in sports arenas and for commercial use because it stands up to heavy use.  There is also a higher demand of artifical turf installation for homeowners because of the low maintenance, less water usage, and the ability to withstand any season. At Martinez Care we provide artificial turf installation and provide you with everything you need to know about artificial turf installation to the durability of artifical turf. We also know the importance of choosing the right artificial grass lawn or artifical turf variety. Martinez Care are your experts in artificial turf installation, Thousand Oaks, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Ventura, CA. As a top provider of artificial turf we want to provide you with everything you need to know including the differences between a synthetic lawn and natural grass

Artificial grass lawn and turf testings are done by certified laboratories specializing in artificial Turf. Artificial grass lawn and turf testing is able to see any foreseeable risk, while helping to provide a safer environment. The testing program is committed to providing safer, well-maintained athletic fields and other surfaces. Also perform in-house and on-site "drill tests" on all products. Tests  simulate years of use of the turf field by using an electric powered steel brush on  the product.

Artificial Turf is Tested for:

  • MAXIMUM DURABILITY
  • MULTI-DIRECTIONAL
  • AESTHETICS
  • NO-SHINE YARNS

Durability:

Simulated Wear and Abrasion Resistance

The surface is artificially abraded (simulation of multiple years of wear) and tested for the following: Shock Absorption, Vertical Deformation,

Vertical Ball Rebound, and Rotational Resistance.

Joint Strength

Measures the maximum force recorded to destroy the joints where they are sewn or adhered with adhesive.

Climatic Resistance

UV / Water / Heat - Measures the colour change, abrasion resistance and joint strength.

Player / Surface Interaction

Shock Absorption and Vertical Deformation

Measures the impact absorption provided by synthetic turf
to a player running or falling on as well as the foot stability of the surface as a player runs across it.

Rotational Resistance

Measures the interaction between the shoe sole and the surface of artificial grass relating to the ability of a player to change direction.

Slip Resistance Scale and Deceleration

Measures the ability of studs to slide through the surface without causing the player to slip over. Slip resistance deceleration measures the deceleration experienced by the players shoe as it makes contact with the surface. If the deceleration is too high, damages to joints and ligaments may occur.

Skin Abrasion/ Skin Friction

Measures the abrasiveness and friction of artificial turf on the skin of the player when sliding.

Ball / Surface Interaction on Artificial Turf

Vertical Ball Rebound

Measures how high the ball bounces when falling vertically onto a synthetic turf field.

Ball Roll

Measures how far the ball rolls onto synthetic turf compared to natural grass.

Angled Ball Behavior

Measures how the ball rebounds from an artificial turf surface when striking it at a shallow angle under dry and wet conditions.

General Test Applicable to Synthetic Turf

Player / Surface Interaction Tests on Artificial Turf
The characteristics of a surface that a football player needs to play the game fall into several categories. The synthetic turf testing for player/surface interaction consists of shock absorbency, vertical deformation, slip resistance, traction and sliding distance.

Ball / Surface Interaction Tests
There are three categories that define the performance of a football on the artificial turf surface. The tests that measure these are vertical ball rebound, football roll and angled ball behavior.

Shock Absorption
Measures the impact absorption provided by the synthetic turf surface to a player running or falling on it.

Vertical Deformation
Measures the stability of the synthetic grass surface as a player runs across it.

Traction
Measures the interaction between the shoe sole and the synthetic surface relating to the ability of a player to change direction.

Slip Resistance Scale

It is a measure of the ability of the studs to slide through the surface without causing the player to slip over

Slip Resistance Deceleration of Synthetic Grass
Measures the deceleration experienced by the players boot as it makes contact with the surface. If the deceleration is too high then damage to joints and ligaments may occur.

Vertical ball rebound
Measures how high the ball bounces when falling vertically

Ball roll
Measures how far the ball rolls on the synthetic pitch

Angle ball behaviour
Measures how the ball rebounds from the artificial sports field surface when striking it at a shallow angle under dry and wet conditions.

Friction change
Measures the abrasiveness of the artificial field turf surface to the players skin

Coefficient of friction
Measures the potential of a surface to cause a skin burn to the player.  The higher the recorded coefficient of friction the greater is
